How can we tell the story of a place, its history and its communities through digital tools? The STAR project aims to strengthen the capacity of youth organisations and promote new approaches to participation and learning through cooperation between organisations from Italy, Spain, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia and Jordan.
As part of the project, a practical guide has been developed on Educational Walking Tours and Digital Storytelling, combining storytelling, digital tools and 360° technology to create more engaging, inclusive and accessible learning experiences. The guide is aimed particularly at young people, youth workers, trainers and organisations interested in developing innovative educational activities within their local communities. The guidelines explore how a simple walk can become an educational experience through storytelling, interactive content and digital technologies such as videos, audio, interactive maps, QR codes and 360° cameras. Particular attention is given to encouraging young people to actively contribute their own perspectives, tell their stories and strengthen their connection with the communities and places around them.
The guide also provides practical advice on planning and delivering educational tours, recording and editing 360° footage, integrating interactive elements and developing tour scripts. It includes useful templates to support the design and implementation of new educational walking tours.
Read the guidelines to discover how storytelling and digital tools can be used to design educational walking tours, bring places and stories to life, and create meaningful learning experiences for young people.
The guidelines were developed as part of the STAR: Story Tours Alternative Routes and published in February 2025. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ KA2 Cooperation Partnerships (KA220-YOU) programme.
